Sci Fi Channel's Stargate SG-1 is ready to launch its eighth season this summer, and plans to launch a new series under the Stargate brand at the same time - Stargate Atlantis (MGM). Stargate Atlantis begins its journey on Earth, at a secret base located among the ruins of the ancient city of Atlantis. The show is cast with an entirely new team, though cross-overs with the original series are also planned. The show will launch with a 2-hour premiere, thereafter airing one hour weekly as a companion series to SG-1. The show will be distributed by MGM Worldwide Television Distribution.
