Checked Your License Lately?

It's never a good feeling to find out that your driver's license is suspended. It's especially frustrating when you discover this as you are attempting to show your brand spanking new trainee what a *valid* driver's license looks like. My trainee, an ex-Marine drill Sgt did his best impersonation of trying to look unalarmed and concerned. "A" for effort.

Gee, in the past using my own *valid* DL has been a breeze, not so last night. Now, imagine my amusement when I discover not only am I suspended, but I have a criminal warrant out for my arrest! Apparently, I wrote a bad check, in a town I've never been to and have an apartment in that town too. I suddenly had visions of those identity theft commercials running through my head. Needless to say, I made a call to my Sarge.

"Crisis hot line"
Sarge?
Yeah
I need you to come in here
Now?
Yeah
Can it....
No
Could you give me a hint
No (taped line)

Needless to say he found this all pretty humorous as did everyone else.

'Course this was all a big mistake and the nice people in the town that I've never been to were very apologetic this morning. I never did like this one particular warrant system and now I like it even less.

On more than one occasion I've been told that my life should be a "dime store novel", I was upped by a co-worker last night to mini-series status.

Okay, that answers my question!

I had the exact same thing happen to me a year ago. Only I had a cop randomly run my plate, see a warrant for me, pull me over and arrest me, made me sit in jail for 3 hours, then let my girlfriend bail me out. I had to go to court the next morning to get it taken care of. They had the wrong guy, and i'd never been to the town i had a warrant in.

I hope you sued their ass. There is a national system that has checks and balamces in place, there's another court system that needs some serious looking at and that was the culprit here. I really feel sorry for people like yourself who didn't/don't have the access to find the answers for themselves.
