Carnival of the Dogs

Why wasn't there are Carnival this past Sunday? For one reason, no entries. No surprise there, I hardly ever get any, I search for entries myself. But, this Sunday we were busy. One of our fosters, Trouble, went to her new home and she has a wonderful new home with friends of ours! And Skye went to meet some nice people and a four legged family member, who it turns out will be his new family! Of course, this both overjoys me and breaks my heart. But, that's the nature of fostering.

I almost lost my temper tonight when someone said to me that they couldn't do it because they wouldn't gve the dogs up. What does that make me? Less caring? No, in my opinion, it makes them selfish. Skye's new family has already told me that they'll be putting him on their pet insurance, they have a beautiful home, a great piece of property and they are very nice people. His new brother is sweet and they played great together.

Trouble was much easier to part with, she'll be living almost around the block with a friend and she'll be very loved and well cared for.

And an update on Paris, I spoke to her Mom right before we went to California and she's doing wonderful!

I tear up every time I look at Skye now, but I know it's for the best. So, if you can take your heart breaking once in a awhile, but feel it mend as you rejoice in the good that you've done, then please, become a foster family and give a dog or cat a chance at a new life.

Foster Poem

by Barb Lieberman

There I sat, alone and afraid,

You got a call and came right to my aid.

You bundled me up with blankets and love.

And, when I needed it most, you gave me a hug.

I learned that the world was not all that scary and cold.

That sometimes there is someone to have and to hold.

You taught me what love is, you helped me to mend.

You loved me and healed me and became my first friend.

And just when I thought you'd done all you do

There came along not one new lesson but two.

First you said, Sweetheart, you’re ready to go.

I’ve done all I can and you’ve learned all I know.

Then, you bundled me up with a blanket and kiss.

Along came a new family, they even have "kids"!

They took me to their home, forever to stay.

At first I thought you sent me away.

Then that second lesson became perfectly clear.

No matter how far, you will always be near.

And so, Foster Mom, you know I’ve moved on.

I have a new home with toys and a lawn.

But I’ll never forget what I learned that first day.

You never really give your fosters away.

So you gave me these thoughts to remember you by.

We may never meet again and now I know why.

You’ll remember I lived with you, for a short time.

I may not be yours but you’ll always be mine.

Poem courtesy of Basset Hound Rescue of Southern California, which is so fitting, since Skye's new brother is a rescued Bassett Hound!

I finally got some pics of my children of fur on my website. I would be honored if they were included in the next Carnival of the Dogs.

Me too! I wouldn't mind at all to be part of the Carnival. Just e-mail me when you're ready to put one up. :D
