Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, we did :) We have a lot to be thankful for, good friends, Sebastian still with us and a call from the Vet saying that 'Bass is hyperthyroid. Yes, that's a good thing, at least we have something to treat now. The letter from the finance company came Wednesday and the car loan is complete. The turkey was delish, the pies from Delicious Orchards were yum, as was the cheese and broccoli quiche that we had for Thanksgiving lunch along with some outrageously expensive grapes (yikes!). Been munching on left overs and cookies and mints etc. Bought X-Men United on sale at Tar-jey for $14.99 and we enjoyed a nice movie night last night. 'Bass needs 3 sets of meds now, so that's a bit of a time constraint, but I'm nt complaining. He's still at the ravenous stage too, which means he needs wet food every couple of hours, that's more where the time issue comes in.
Opened my box of Avon Christmas goodies. Lemme tell ya, they did a really nice job with the lighted teddy and Tommy, the talking snowman. And yes, I am an Avon Rep.
The puppies, have been playing and nipping at each other, which is nice, except when D'Ar slobs all over Aeryn, she smells like skunk again.
Browsed the Celtic Attic site this morning, lots of nice things. And now it will be off to Petco for more cat food for 'Bass and kitty litter, two things that he goes through very quickly.

We spent today transportings puppies. They were going from North Carolina to Massachusetts. We took 2 legs of the journey. One of the riders was an adorable beagle/bassett hound looking older female. She had a broken pelvis and was going into foster care where she was going to get all fixed up. The other was a real cutie who pulled at my heart strings. And then there were the two devil spawn pups *G* and their brother, a quiet little cutie who spent the entire ride in my son's lap. Guess who pulled at his heart strings? I just kept telling myself we were doing a good thing and they'd find good homes for everyone. If you ever get the chance to take part in something like this, jump at it, it's selfishly rewarding. It was amazing to think there were 5 dogs in the truck, they were all so well behaved and the other volunteers that we met with were very nice.

Over at About Damn Time there's a post about how the blogger's mother threatened to call social services on her. I had been mulling around in my head a post about Wednesday's episode of Angel. Wesley receives an unexpected visit from his father. Almost immediately, we see poor Wes become clumsy and unsure of himself around his critical and domineering father. There's an old adage that we never truly become adults until our parents have passed. In many ways, I think his is true.
I was amazed at how much this episode cut to the quick and how painful it was watching the manipulation. My mother was very manipulative and once threatened to call child services on me because I'd swatted my son on the behind for not behaving, mind you he was about 2 1/2 and had a diaper on no less. This was the same woman who called me at work and told me to come and get my son, who was about 6 at the time, she'd put him out to the curb. Nice.
The episode did a fine job of dredging up past hurts, but thankfully, they don't bother me now. Not as much anyway, I'd be a liar if I said they had no effect, of course they do. Television of the '50s and 60's presented wholesome families that were loving and able to talk about their feelings. Even a family that by today's standards would be called dysfunctional, like "My Three Sons", was able to share their thoughts without repercussion or ridicule. Unlike my own, which was shrouded in secrecy that was supposedly the way of the Irish not to air the dirty laundry. My mother was always so hrd pressed to make us see what a monster my father was for being a drinker that she missed the part where all of her pent up anger and hurt had turned her into a different sort of monster. It was naturally much easy when I was younger, when they at least had the prescence of mind to spare me the shouting matches, they didn't really escalate until I was in high school. Small wonder that I view many two parent families as being the truly dysfunctional ones. People should stay together for the children, not unless they're willing to win an academy award every day, if you're capable of burying your feelings and maintain a facade of happiness without it eating you up inside, all the power to ya then. Most people can't though and it's often the words that go unsaid that cut the deepest.
The same shows of the 50s and 60s put parents on a pedestal, Father knew best after all. I don't think I ever saw a child disagree with or have a difficult parent until "Bewitched". Sam did a wonderful job of loving her mother, but also keeping her at arm's length. Naturally, I wanted to please my parents, but what only made matters worse, was that I was particularly interested in pleasing my father, which naturally put me at odds with my mother, whom I could never please.
Wesley killed his father when his father threatened Fred (Winifred), his friend. Without a second of thought, he shot him as his father raised a gun to Fred. I didn't cut my mother off after she threatened me, I realized that she was sick, sick with jealousy, sick with regret. She was someone who was going to have to be watched with caution, because it's the "true believers" that are so very dangerous and mother was someone who truly believed that she was right and the rest of us were wrong. Needless to say, it was difficult to live up to these standards and I'm sure it was difficult for her to accept that I didn't intend to.
I have no moral to this "story" no conclusion even really, it's just a snippet of the thoughts that passed through my head this morning.
"This is classic. Marking the 35th anniversary, NFL Network will air the movie Heidi on November 17, the same day 35 years ago in 1968 when the Oakland vs. Jets game was interrupted in its final minutes so NBC could begin their movie Heidi on time. During the course of those final minutes, Oakland scored two additional touchdowns, winning the game. NFL Network's presentation of the movie will also include a handful of interviews including then NBC exec Dick Cline who made the fateful decision to switch to the movie, Curt Gowdy who called the game. And if you never did see the ending of that game, NFL will air the game footage of the two touchdowns as well."
Arthur William Matthew Carney, aka Art Carney, aka Ed Norton, aka America's Most Famous Sewer Worker, died last Sunday and was laid to rest yesterday in Westbrook, Connecticut where he has live for the past few decades. Carney was 85. Carney's career took him well beyond the Honeymooners with his 1974 film Harry and Tonto for which he received the Oscar for best actor, not to mention numerous appearances on Carol Burnett Show, not to mention an appearance on Batman as The Archer. In recognition of Art Carney's long life, career and comedic contributions, TV Land will present a 39-episode marathon of The Honeymooners on Friday, November 14, from 8p to conclusion.

The Gothamist has a post on Shrek 2
And jes, that is Antonio Banderas as Puss....Puss in Boots!
Us Jersey kids gotta stick together.....
Boro6 has a what could be a Sopranos spoiler.
And he has a link to A weblog about the Sopranos
It seems that if I don't post, that the blog look gets whacked and the menu and links etc are all over the place. It's like the blog is screaming "POST!!" Well, I get one day off this week, only had one day off last week. I gotta hit the pillows soon, I want to up to watch the eclipse. And I want to get outto see the new Matrix movie. We saw the second one at the drive-in and we bought it the other day and rewatched it. Okay, bed time!
When I can't get here, it seems that I have a million things to say, then I get here....
Sebastian - he has good days and bad days. The insulin still isn't regulated, but that's because we're still working on the kidneys. He still has zero interest in cat food, of any kind. Loves table food and baby food. Could be that I'm just so used to him being ravenous that I can't get used to him eating normal and he's filling up on the scraps and baby mush.
Money - where does it go? I had to look at my finances this week because of the new truck and all that, wow, I look good on paper, where does it go??
Friends - no, not the TV show! *G* - I'm still feeling skiddish on that one. I know I expect too much from people and I'm too idealistic and put them on pedestals that they are destined tumble from. It isn't fair to them, I know this.
TV - Lovin' Angel this year, laughed my ass off the other day, well written, great acting, nice story movement.
Smallville - decent, not great, but still enjoying it.
And then there's Survivor - yeehaw! I finally, finally found a soft spot for Rupert. Before this, he'd been buggin' me. And Lil, wow, who knew. I think my favorite moment was when Andrew asked her if she would tell him before tribal counsel what she had decided and she said he hadn't told her. Touche, Lil.
