Yup, that's Garrett behind David Letterman's desk manning the helm!
Who are his guests? Me, his Mom and my friend Larry, who is Letterman's sound engineer.
Larry and I went to college together, many, many years ago!
The show was great, Bill Cosby was the guest and Toby Lightman was the musical guest, she was very good, which I was very thankful for, since we sat through her rehearsals and her singing her song about 4 times.
Of course the best part of the day was seeing Larry. He's still a sweetheart and it's nice to see that some things don't change :) And I love spending a fun day with my son.

Larry and Garrett up at Larry's work area.

Nope, the excitement didn't end there. Larry walked us across the street
where he got us set up with backstage passes for Evanescence.
Their opening acts were
Default and Atomship.
Needless to say, much fun was had! Oh, I forgot to mention how
on Thursday, Larry put Amy Lee from Evanescence on the phone with an unsuspecting Garrett!
The concert was great, especially Evanescence. I didn't realize who
Default was, they were good. The lead singer has a great voice and they
mixed a bit of Zeppelin in there, my all time fav. Yes, I'm a head banger
from way back.
AND....Garrett, who got his driver's license on Monday, drove in the city
(there's only *one* city for this born in NYer, that would be NYC)
Yup, drove in the city. I was so proud! *G* Congrats to Garrett!
I have to play cops and robbers Thursday until around 4:30 PM, be back at 3AM, work until I have physical therapy at 8:30 AM, then got to the doctor's at 9:45, pick up my son at 2 PM and get into NYC for the Evanescence concert that night at the Roseland. Sleep is optional I guess!
Speaking of Evanescence, they'll be on Letterman Thursday night.
The Food Network is bringing Iron Chef to the United States with the Americanized version of the show. Iron Chef America (Triage Ent) is set to launch with an original series of four special episodes on April 23-25, 9-11p each evening. The American Iron Chefs are Bobby Flay Mario Batali and Wolfgang Puck. In these special eps, the American Iron Chefs do kitchen battle with the Japanese Iron Chefs Masaharo Morimoto and Hiroyuki Sakai. As any Iron Chef fan knows, there is also a set of judges and for the American version will include Paige Davis (Trading Spaces), Dennis Franz (NYPD Blue), Barbara Fairchild (editor of Bon Appetit), Vincent Pastore (Sopranos), among others. And in the role of play-by-ingredient commentator, chef/scientist Alton Brown.
Despite the Law anf Order connection (Bobby Flay just got engaged to the actress who played "Alex" on L&O: SVU) I don't like Bobby Flay. Morimota is my fav though, so that's a big plus!

CABLEready has acquired the international distribution rights to 13 episodes of Samurai Sportsman (Hidden Treasures Prods), currently airing in its first season on Outdoor Life Network in primetime. The show features Japanese sportsman Yoshi, a martial arts expert and Samurai swordsman, teaming up with a Western outdoorsman and learning how to master each new Western style as well as teaching the ways of the Samurai. Says Gary Lico, President/CEO of CABLEready, Samurai Sportsman is "...an outdoor sports show with appeal even to folks who don?t know a shotgun from a shogun.?
I'm left asking- Why? Just seems like an odd combination, well, maybe that *is* why.

It was a busy week. I think light duty has been more hard work than regular duty! One more week of that and then hopefully, despite the fact that I still have a good deal of pain and no feeling in my fingers, I can resume regular duty and go back to mids too.
I've been to Tar-jey, stocked up on the obligatory paper products and bought Legally Blond 2, it was only $14.99. Figure I'll kick back with that, a shirley temple (yes, livin' large tonight) and some pop corn. I don't have any desire to go anywhere tonight but right here. The phones are turned off .
Managed to catch up on "24" this week. Did I mention how much I adore Howard Gordon? I do, the man is damn near a god in my book (anyone who does something nice for my child is tops in my book) and he managed to lift Rae Plachecki up there into the clouds with him. Who's Rae Plachecki you ask? Or maybe you know her as the fictional character on this past week's "24". But, Rae Plachecki isn't just a fictional character, she's a real live woman who won the right to have her name in an episode of "24". It was won at Lights, Camera, Auction 6! in Toronto, Canada, this past October (my favorite charity organization - we've been on the staff as charity zombies since day 1).
Howard Gordon is the executive producer of "24" and he co-wrote this week's episode. Both he and Kiefer Sutherland were at the auction, doing a great job as celebrity auctioneers.
Back to "24". For a minute, I wondered if Rae was going to turn out to be the mother of Chase's baby. Whew! Nope, Howard made her an investigator and we heard Rae's name, over and over and over. It was a beautiful thing. Rae is a wonderful person, well deserved!
I still can't get over how people get up early and go to work. I really believe that there are some of us that are just night people. The day just seems to crawl to me.
My hands are freezing, I thought it was supposed to be warmer.
I'm lovin' my Kane CD. More and more the songs grow on me individually.
I'm getting the itch - I want to travel. I wish it didn't hurt so damned much to drive. It's a bitch. This time of year I get restless for the drive-in to open or to take a trip to Delaware to do some outlet shopping. I'm not a big shopper, but it's an excuse and they do have the Disney Catalog outlet. I suppose there's always a short jaunt to Atlantic City to consider, but that roll of quarters just goes so damned fast! *G*
I'm not a John Kerry fan. But, I'm left wondering how people who support the wars, like Vietnam and the present one, can criticize people who exercise their right to free speech and to congregate? So many sites seem to be railing on JK and I don't get it. If anyone has the right to criticize, shouldn't it be someone who actually knows what it was about? JK served his time, he saw the war up front and personal, not through his father's eyes or mother's eyes. He didn't experience it through reading the headlines or watching the 6 o' clock news, he lived it. I don't know what that man saw, but whatever it was or whatever he experienced, he returned and attended and/or participated in rallies against the war. Isn't that his right as an American citizen? Isn't that what we stand for, personal freedoms? Isn't that at least partially why we're in Iraq? Not only to protect our own interests, but those people who have been unable to have a public opinion of their own? Yet all I keep reading is how Kerry should shut up and Kerry is anti-American and what right does he have? He has the right as an American citizen to voice his opinion and to congregate freely. I hope it stays that way.

Survivor was a touch one this week. A few months ago, I'd read a small blurb in a magazine that Jenna's mother had passed away. When I saw that she was going to be in the All Stars version, I'd hoped it hadn't happened when she was out there.
Rupert - What were you thinking? Hasn't he ever had a basement that flooded?? I felt sorry for Jerri. As my son pointed out, they all knew he was wrong, but it was better to let Jerri and he go at it. Stupid I think, they had an opportunity to make things easier on themselves and didn't take advantage of it.
Does it seem like there's a lot of alcohol on this show lately?
Did anyone ever teach Alicia basic manners? I dont think Jenna should have been there either, but that wasn't the time to make her feel guilty. And Big Tom's solution was a selfish one, sure, don't bother him, y'all just suffer without him, don't go letting any bad news ruin his day!
Angel
Continuity?! Lacking. Slow, slow, boring. No mention of Cordy. Next week - puppets
SG-1 - 2 well written episodes in a row, first time this season. Still not enough Jack though.
Monk
Good, as always. Well written, nicely acted. Okay, so you're pretty sure you know who it is, but it's the how of it that's well written.
I watched an episode of Perry Mason this week. My mother watched that show religiously. You weren't allowed to speak when that was on. I don't think I appreciated it as much back then, but this was a good show, well written with good acting. Turns out this particular episode that I caught was the last one of the series, "The Case of the Final Fadeout" with Dick Clark portraying the murderer and Erle Stanley Gardner as the judge and Jackie Coogan as the prop master.
Take the Perry Mason Quiz for fun.
A statement from The WB: For the last seven years Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer have been cornerstones of our network. The sum total of the work done on those shows has produced some of the proudest moments in our history. Like some of the great series that are leaving the air this year, including Frasier and Friends, the cast, crew, writers and producers of Angel deserve to be able to wrap up the series in a way befitting a classic television series and that is why we went to Joss to let him know that this would be the last year of the series on The WB. We have discussed continuing the Angel legacy with special movie events next year, which is still on the table. In a perfect world, all of these details would be completed before this information went to the press so that we could be definitive about the show's ongoing future. But in any case, we did not want to contemplate this being the last year of Angel without giving the show the option of crafting their own destiny for this character and for this series. David Boreanaz continues to be one of the finest, classiest and friendliest actors we have had the pleasure to work with and we hope that the relationship furthers from here. The same can be said for all the actors and producers on the show.
Please check WHEDONesque and The Bronze: Beta for more information on this news and on how and where you can go/write to get this decision changed or find Angel a new home.

Another Antartic Night The picture with this post is beautiful!
Meg Ryan, 42, says she's looking forward to seeing the staged musical version of her 1989 hit movie, When Harry Met Sally in London. But the actress admits she "feels sorry" for American Pie cutie Alyson Hannigan, 29 -- who takes on Meg's role, opposite Beverly Hills 90210 hunk Luke Perry -- because of the famed fake orgasm scene every night. "Pray for her sex life!" Meg laughs. Hopefully Alyson's hubby, actor Alexis Denisof, 37, whom she married last year, doesn't mind her faking ecstasy on stage.

Here's a tidbit -
The story starts outside the cinema as I poo poo my friend Sam's suggestion that her precious Alexis Denisof might show up to give his wife some support on her second night. "Of course not Sam, he's filming Angel in LA, don't be ridiculous." Five minutes later, and I swear I'm not making his up, who strolls down Haymarket and into the theatre but Alexis Denisof himself, looking very dapper, clean-shaven, very tall and grinning from ear to ear. "Excuse me. I have to call EVERYONE I have EVER met, RIGHT now." (Cordelia, 1997)
I'm glad to see this!
Survivor's Rudy Admits Error
by Angel Cohn
Survivor: All-Stars may actually live up to its hype as the most cutthroat edition ever. After eliminating past winner Tina Wesson, the female Saboga tribemates preyed on the elderly by taking out Survivor's oldest player ever, Rudy Boesch. The 76-year-old former Navy SEAL made it to the final three in the very first game, but here, his torch was swiftly snuffed once he injured his ankle.
"I didn't expect to go that quick," Boesch sighs to TV Guide Online. "I think it was because I was actually holding that tribe back. I would have done the same thing if I was in their shoes."
That's quite a change of tune from his final on-air remarks. He threatened the backstabbing duo of Jerri and Jenna L., issuing the warning, "If I was them... I'd stay clear of me." The curmudgeon even went so far as to suggest that he had "friends" that could take care of them. Paging Tony Soprano!
"When you get voted off, you are mad at the world," Boesch admits. "I made a couple of dumb statements. Since then, I have thought it over, and they did exactly what they should have done. They got rid of the old guy because he was too slow."
While he wasn't that fast on his feet, he was quick to forge an alliance with loveable pirate Rupert, who he happily calls "a man of his word." Does the forthright father of three still keep in touch with his old Survivor cohort, Colleen Haskell? "After we finished the first Survivor, we all went our own ways," he notes. "That is the last time I ever saw Colleen. She was supposed to be included in [the All-Stars edition], but she refused."
Haskell's decision is one that Boesch cannot relate to at all. Despite his advanced age and the early ouster, he's already itching for another shot. "I'd do it again, if they want me to," he says enthusiastically. "I'll keep doing it until I win."

I like Valentine's Day. Whether or not I am in a significant relationship or not. At the present, it's not. And I *still* like Valentine's Day. I don't mind not being in a pair. Even when I am in a pair, I mostly feel like a strawberry anyway. Oh, yes silly me. But, it's true, I'm not much of the pairing type anyway, I feel much like me even when I'm a we.
Soooo...I thought this whole International Quirky Day thingy was pretty cool. I even took the QUIZ and passed with flying colors!

Brothel raid nets police chief
February 1, 2004
The Sun-Herald
Police in the US were shocked when they raided a brothel only to discover that their force chief was one of its alleged customers.
Police Chief James Martin Leason has been suspended without pay after allegedly being caught in the bust in New Jersey. The top cop apparently did not know his officers had the brothel under surveillance since July last year.
He was arrested as he left the building after engaging in various sex acts with one of the two female employees, authorities said.
Leason, 56, was charged with promoting prostitution and misconduct in office. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
The mayor and council of the small town of Runnemede said they were shocked and disappointed with their police chief. However, the safety of the residents would not be affected by this incident, they added in a joint statement.

These colors are really growing on me.....
Somebody explain to me how y'all manage to get up early and trudge off to work in the daylight hours? That was torture today, I'm beat. And this was a 9-5 shift, not even the 7-3 shift. I think it must be an acquired taste.

NEW YORK (AP) - After traumatizing parts of northwest Arkansas, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are taking on the rest of the country.
The socialites and best friends will spend the second season of their reality show, "The Simple Life," on a road trip, Fox TV announced Monday.
"It'll be interesting to see the country through their eyes," Mike Darnell, Fox's executive vice president of special programming, told the trade paper Variety. "Maybe Paris will visit a Wal-Mart. I'm kind of hoping they stop at a Hilton."
Auditions for families to play host to Hilton and Richie will begin this weekend and are scheduled to last throughout the month; casting information is available on the Bunim-Murray Productions Web site. Production is expected to begin this spring, with the show airing later this year.
The first season of "The Simple Life" was a huge hit for Fox. It featured Hilton, the hotel heiress, and Richie, daughter of Lionel Richie, milking cows, washing trucks and shocking the locals while living with a family in rural Altus, Ark.

Ith, over at Absinthe and Cookies raises the question - If you could only watch three TV shows -- currently in production -- what would they be?
Give a visit and let her know what you're watching!
Me? I chose Angel, SG-1 and Survivor. My alternate would be Monk. These are the only shows I actually stop to watch. However, I really enjoy the entire Law and Order franchise, right down to my wonderful son giving me the for Christmas, so I really shouldn't overlook them and I know I don't give them enough credit. It just seems tha they are on *every* channel, every hour of the day, so I overlook them when I make choices like this.
And I do enjoy "24" and Smallville, but truthfiully, the four mentioned above are the only "stoppers".
I get to go back to work! I get to go back to work! Wait.....someone tell me *why* this is a *good* thing?! I only got light duty though, not allowed to go back and do most of my real job, just the side jobs of my real job.
Uhh...Rudy...it's just a show. No need to go threatening two young women with the fact that you have friends out there. I've always been fond of Rudy, I think he's a tough old coot. But, I also think he'd be the first one at someone's door if they threatened his daughter the way he did.
I thought she did an outstanding job last night. Here's a link to an Interview With Charisma Carpenter and a link to the

Oh....wow
I'm really, really glad Joss didn't kill off the "tiny Texan", but wow, Cordy. It was wonderful seeing her tonight, she gave a cohesion to the show that I felt was lacking without her. Damn.
No love lost here for Eve, she was as annoying as Darla. Okay, maybe not that bad, but close. And the door has been left open for Lindsey to return, yet again. And Harmony was pricless tonight. Great writing, real class, thanks, but Joss, ya still suck for taking Cordy out!
Tonight we see the return of Cordy, a character hat I;ve become surprisingly fond of over the years. We get Spike, Lindsey, Angel for Ith and Wes for Jayne (not something I thought I'd *ever* be saying!) Spike and Lindsey are all mine. Why? 'cause Ithy said it's my blog, that's why!
And (here's a good seque) Robert Bianco, from USA Today says:
? Anyone seeking a temporary TV escape from reality should turn to Angel (WB, 9 p.m. ET/PT), which reaches the 100th episode mark with a terrific episode built around the return of Charisma Carpenter's Cordelia. As smart, funny and scary as any show you'll find on TV, Angel isn't just a fantasy refuge, it's also a place where viewers can rediscover the joys of first-rate scripted programming. Trust me: You won't find any dating-show relationship that is as touching ? and, well, real ? as that between Cordelia and Angel. Nor can any dating-show bachelor match the dry humor and leading-man heroism of David Boreanaz.

WB Hopes to Hide in "Dark Shadows"
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - If P.T. Barnum were looking over the history of The WB, he might note that a bloodsucker is born every minute.
The WB is looking to sire a new vampire franchise, reportedly greenlighting a new version of the popular daytime serial "Dark Shadows," which first aired on ABC from 1966 to '71. NBC resurrected the franchise for a short-lived primetime revival in '91.
Original "Dark Shadows" creator Dan Curtis and "ER" and "West Wing" producer John Wells are the creative forces behind the WB update, along with Mark Verheiden ("Smallville"), who wrote the pilot.
When I was in the 6th grade, I could hardly wait to get home after school and watch Dark Shadows. We'd just moved and the area was fairly deserted and nothing like what I'd been used to.
My first paying job in the theatre was working with David Selby. What a thrill to be working with someone that I'd had such a crush on when I was 12! Thankfully, he turned out to be a really, really nice guy.
I loved it! Laughed my ass off. Someone who's never seen Survivor asked me to explain it today. It really isn't that easy to explain. Sure, you can go with the basic description, but what really fascinates me about the show is the human dynamics. It's particularly interesting to see these people returning. Is it possible to mask your true self long enough to get a good strategy going on this show? Or will people, as Alicia pointed out, know what buttons to press? Alicia and Jerri both said that they were going to try and be low key. Jerri succeeded, Alicia didn't. Rob pushed the right buttons and got her going. Speaking of Rob, if I remember correctly, he said a lot of what made him look bad during his last outing was the editing and that he really wasn't that bad, they just managed to show *all* of his bad sides *G* He seems a little older and wiser this time around. Richard seems to be playing the "I don't give a shit" card, I think expecting that he's a target as a past winner and he's just going to soak in the sun and only do what's necessary. Sue Hawk seems to be traveling that same road. Except during the challenges, they both pitched in hard and pulled right along side their team mates. Jerri got her wish, Tina was voted off and Jenna was the catalyst, not her as much anyway. Jenna doesn't think it's fair for a past winner to have a shot. Ethan brought up a good point, winning teams aren't penalized from play the following year, why should past Survivor winners. If you go with Jenna's take on things, why should past players even be given a chance to try again?
