What Dog Am I?
Kerry Blue Terrier
Origins
Ireland. Believed to descended from dogs that swam ashore from shipwrecks of the Spanish Armada off the coast of County Kerry in 1588. A line of silver blue dog evolved that were used for fighting, herding, hunting and guarding. They were used for all jobs required of terriers (hunting foxes, badgers and otters) plus it is also a good fighter.
Personality
Although it is primarily a sporting dog many of these dogs have found a home with families.
It is good with children, while retaining watchful guarding instincts. However it has a fierce temper if roused, especially by other dogs. If you have a relationship with this dog make sure you insure yourself against other people's veterinary bills.

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAINS ARE EXPECTED THROUGH OUT THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.
Okay, who ordered the Nor'Easter?? It's a frellin' storm out there! This isn't just showers, it's a monsoon! And oddly enough, the roof started to leak in the laundry room. That's extremely odd considering we had a new roof put on last year. I think it may have been the wind causing it, because it only did it for about a half hour.
Where is the Carnival of the Dogs this week you ask? Well, nobody sent in anything about their puppies :(
Maybe everyone is on vacation? Or just plum tuckered out from the 4th.....So, I'll post this little tribute to fosters and hope we see lots of entries next week!
Taking care of rescue dogs
Is something I do best.
I know because I've done it,
And I've surely passed the test.
The dogs I've bathed, the food I've fed,
The vacuuming I've done,
And all to watch a frightened soul
Sit dreaming in the sun.
My own dogs I've neglected,
But I tell them everyday
That I love and cherish each of them
Though a new dog's come to stay.
I know they understand this,
For in their eyes I see
The love that I have given them
Come shining back at me.
Some people think I'm crazy,
Some others think I'm great.
But very few can understand
What really is at stake.
If I can love and help a dog
To find a better way,
My own life is much richer,
I look forward to each day.
So now you know my secret,
It's there for all to see,
The love I give, the life I save,
I do it all for me.

DENIED!: Steppenwolf front man John Kay turned down Paris Hilton's request to use the rock group's 1968 anthem "Born to Be Wild" on her Fox road romp, The Simple Life. "There are certain things even a rock and roller will not stoop to," Kay told the Toronto Star, "and this is one of them."

WEDNESDAY, July 7 - "DANGEROUS DOG" DISCUSSION WITH ASPCA EXPERTS
Participate in our online discussion, Wednesday, July 7th
Are you facing the prospect of having to give up your companion animal because your state legislature or town council is considering breed-specific legislation? Has your insurance company notified you that it is canceling your homeowner's policy because your dog is a certain breed? At the ASPCA, we believe that these solutions to the so-called "dangerous dog" problem will not work. To find out more, you're invited to join Dr. Pamela Reid, vice president, ASPCA Animal Behavior Center, and Stephen L. Zawistowki, Ph.D., senior vice president, National Programs, at the Washington Post online in a moderated discussion, "Deeming Dogs Dangerous in the United States: Facts or Politics?"
Everyone is welcome to participate in this event, which takes place next Wednesday, July 7, at 1 P.M.
Attendees can submit questions for our experts anytime before or during the discussion. For more information, please visit the Washington Post online. If you are concerned about the "dangerous dog" issue, you won't want to miss this -- and we hope to see you online next Wednesday.
If you're in the NY/NJ/CT area or planning to visit NYC on July 10

FOURTH OF JULY IS NO PICNIC FOR DOGS AND CATS
Loud, crowded fireworks displays are no fun for pets, so please resist the urge to take them to Independence Day festivities. Instead, keep your little guys safe from the noise in a quiet, sheltered and escape-proof area at home.
