Western tourists who survived giant waves that struck Thailand's shores at the weekend have been astounded by the generosity of locals grappling with their own massive destruction and loss of life.

So many people associate Jerry Orbach with Law and Order, but for me, it's Chicago......give 'em the old razzle dazzle Jerry :)
Gothamist has a nice post and some great pictures from a set visit.
Sums up my feelings on these bastards who don't have anything better to do than fill the courts with senseless cases about why we shouldn't have mangers and Christmas songs and Christmas plays whilst they preach tolerance. And it's a cute little cartoon too! And no I'm not going to be politically correct and put a warning. Figure it out for yourself and/ir click the little X at the top right of your screen to make it stop.

I'm always wondering where they hide the extension cords.....never mind that, how many do they plug in one outlet? And how many outlets could they possibly have?!
Here are some highlights:
I never realized how involved these displays were!

I'll be adding some holiday pictures later - so check back :)
'Tis the night before Christmas and all through the town,
Every Shelter is full – we are lost and not found,
Our numbers are hung on our kennels so bare,
We hope every minute that someone will care,
They'll come to adopt us and give us the call,
"Come here Max and Sparkle – come fetch your new ball!"
But now we sit here and think of the days,
We were treated so fondly – we had cute baby ways,
Once we were little, then we grew and we grew,
Now we're no longer young and no longer new,
So out the back door we were thrown like the trash,
They reacted so quickly – why were they so rash?
We "jump on the children", don't come when they call",
We "bark when they leave us", climb over the wall.
We should have been neutered; we should have been spayed,
Now we suffer the consequence of the errors THEY made.
If only they trained us, if only we knew,
We'd have done what they asked us and worshipped them, too.
We were left in the backyard, or worse – left to roam,
Now we're tired and lonely and out of a home.
They dropped us off here and they kissed us good-bye,
"Maybe someone else will give you a try".
So now here we are, all confused and alone,
In a shelter with others who long for a home.
The kind workers come through with a meal and a pat,
With so many to care for they can't stay to chat,
They move to the next kennel, giving each of us cheer,
We know that they wonder how long we'll be here.
We lay down to sleep and sweet dreams fill our heads,
Of a home filled with love and our own cozy beds.
Then we wake to see sad eyes, brimming with tears,
Our friends filled with emptiness, worry and fear.
If you can't adopt us and there's no room at the Inn,
Could you help with the bills and fill our food bin?
We count on your kindness each day of the year,
Can you give more than hope to everyone here?
Please make a donation to pay for the heat,
And help to get us something special to eat,
The shelter that cares for us wants us to live,
And more of us will, if more people will give.

Sure, they don't know what day it is, but they do know that every day that they're loved, is a good day :)
If you can't adopt, please support your local foster, rescue or shelter. Donate a blanket and maybe a box of treats or a few toys, the dollar stores are usually loaded with great toys for dogs.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Sorry this is late, I came down with a cold on Thursday night and Saturday we had six foster puppies come up. One of them, Joy, went right to her new pre-approved home. Yeah Joy!
I still haven't gotten Argus, Johnny or Sniffer to sit still long enough for pictures, but here's Duke and Oscar.
Oscar

Duke
I took Oscar to Petco with me last night, he was petrified. Poor Oscar and Duke were found two weeks ago in a ditch in North Carolina, they are a little hesitant about outings, yet they are as sweet as could be with us. They just need a little time. People in Petco were practically fighting over Duke last night when they heard he was available for adoption.
I still don't have a Petfinder page up, I haven't heard back from the Petfinder people.

Maybe I'm not sensitive enough, but I don't understand why people become upset when complete strangers make comments about religion. Does it really matter that a stranger on a mailing list doesn't share your views? Why is it offensive if they don't believe in the Bible? You do, they don't, so what? What does their opinion matter to you?
I remember when I was interviewing for a job and they asked me how I would feel if a crowd started shouting racial slurs at me or called me "bitch"? I think I must have looked confused for a minute, I remember looking at the person who'd axked the question (it was panel), finally I shrugged, "What do I care what they say about me? They don't know me, their opinion is baseless and means nothing to me." I git the feeling that he was well aware that *his* opionion meant nothing to me too. Yes, I did get the job and I turned it down.
Yesterday evening I stopped at Boston Market to get something to eat. The woman who was waiting on me had her hand and arm wrapped in an ace bandage and she looked to be in considerable pain. Turns out she'd fallen through the ceiling at work that morning. I asked if she gone to the doctor, she looked at me..."No, I have to work." Really puts things in perspective. I hope things work out for her.

Sadly, Baba, who was being adopted by Laura, passed away in her sleep Thursday night. Balin and Argus were taken to the vet this morning and when further examined it was determined, sadly, that Balin was sick too and was humanely put down. Argus seems to be doing well and all prayers are appreciated. We're holding off on his transport until next week.
Why don't people ask before they jump to conclusions?
A woman who had been doing transports for a rescue in North Carolina decided that she'd take it upon herself to be the "voice of the voiceless" and on behalf of the animals, complained to the city manager about the way she felt the animals were being mistreated, apparently because a couple of dogs that she'd participated in transporting had passed away some time after reaching their destination. This prompted the city manager to stop all transports for the time being and to order the gassing, yes that's right gassing of a number of animals this morning.
It's bad enough that they are killing these poor animals because of this idiot woman, on top of it, they are still using gas instead of the more humane (and more expensive) method of an injection. All because one idiot didn't realize that the animals can't possibly *all* be in perfect health. If she wanted animals in perfect health then she should have volunteered her time to a breeder.
She further posted that the woman who organizes the transports was "on an ego trip to get animals transported" Yeah her! An ego trip? I don't care what kind of ego she has or hasn't, she gets the animals out and that's the true bottom line.
Animals coming from some shelters down south are not coming from the best of conditions. There's no way you can expect all of these animals to survive with all that's going against them. Removing them from that environment was at least giving them a fighting chance. She's robbed them of that chance now unless the city manager can see his way to changing things and fast. But, it's already too late for the ones this morning.
Please support your local rescues. Even if its just dropping off some blankets or towels or a box of treats. A few dollars goes a long way.
Another episode of Lost and more mysteries -
What's the deal with Ethan's speech? Was he taught English by a person who's first language isn't English? Which would bolster the theory of him being Alex (his mother being French).
Did the whole Charlie CPR scene remind anyone of The Abyss?
Sawyer - he never ceases to amaze. He didn't even seem to harbor that much animosity towards Sayid for what he'd done.
Jack - clearly his shorts were on too tight last night
Hurley - "Back home, I'm known as something of a warrior myself."
Charlie has a step-Dad that he likes. They really need to sh*t or get off the bowl with that storyline, it's cliche and boring. The only redeeming factor - "Michael's" facial expresses.
Another Sawyerism, Sawyer applied nickname whatever you want to call it - Tattoo - joining Stay-Puft, Freckles, Metro and ????
Please stop by and say hi to Loki and take a minute to say a prayer for him.

Stories like Loki's are what the Carnival is really all about, our dogs, how we love them and about dogs like Missy who need our help. I admit, I don't really care for individuals asking for money, but when donations can be made right to a non-profit organization or directly to a Vet who is caring for the animal, I'm all for it.
Please take a peek at Missy's story, click on her picture to get there, thanks!
And a big "HI!" to a Jacqueline!

"YULE" LOVE IT! GINGERBREAD HOUSE EXHIBIT TO BENEFIT HOMELESS ANIMALS, NOW THROUGH SUNDAY
Planning on a visit to Central Park this weekend? Don't miss "Gingerbread Homes for Animals," an exhibition and fair at the Dana Discovery Center featuring incredible, edible sculptures created by NYC's finest pastry chefs. The event will also feature crafts, goodies, and animal-related workshops for both children and adults—including presentations by the ASPCA's own Jennifer Dragotta, who'll teach kids about pet care and how to be safe with animals.
Funds raised during the event will directly benefit The Picasso Fund, helping to support the costs of medical services for homeless animals, and Rational Animal, a group dedicated to growing public awareness of New York's at-risk animal population. This annoyed me this morning - a woman passing me in the school zone, which is a generous 35 mph, which means most cars were probably really doing about 40 and she passes me. What annoyed me even more was that she had one of those "My child is an honor student " stickers on her bumper. I guess it's okay to speed, even if you have kids....She'd probably be the first one to bitch if people were speeding past her kid as he/she was trying to walk to school.
Anybody else watching this? I love this show, it's fascinating. I started watching the first episodes again and naturally it's interesting to go back and see the clues that were there, like Kate rubbing her wrists the first time we see her. I don't really know what's up with the boy reading the Spanish comic book with the polar bear in it and then the polar bear appearing. And why didn't Locke tell anyone what he saw? And this recent development, the pyschic knowing about the crash. Does that mean he knows where they are too? And this "Ethan" guy, is he really Alex? Or? Nice twists.
One thing that was a bit off, in episode 4, Kate tells Jack she's a vegetarian. In episode 3, she's sitting in the farmer's kitchen eating the meal he's made her, eggs and bacon.
There was one thing that seemed a little off, the characterization of Sawyer. He seems pretty vulnerable in the first few episodes. One of the first times we see him, he's sitting alone reading his letter. He doesn't know how or where to shoot the marshall to get him out of his misery and he's clearly upset.
