I apologize for the late Carnival. One of our new fosters wasn't feeling well, so off we went to the emergency vet last night, then back at 5AM to pick him up, only to come home and have his drain fall out, so back to the regular vet we go at 9:45. And I saw potential adopters for Johnny and Moose yesterday afternoon and one couple and their little girl are adopting Moose and Johnny tonight! It was a busy, hectic day and I really would like some sleep....
Here are our lovely Carnivalers!

Anderson and Hardin initially were arrested on felony animal cruelty charges. Those charges were dismissed Tuesday and Levco said he would file misdemeanor charges against the men.
That's disgusting. They shot the cat the day before and left it to suffer, came back the new day and finished it off and yet their charges are downgraded.
I don't know who is responsible for lowering the charges, the article isn't specific. But, I think Mr Levco, the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor, deserves to get a few letters reminding him that this is animal cruelty and deserves more than a misdemeanor charge.
Here's the address for the Prosecutor's web page -

So what's been going on here -
It snowed. Not too awful bad though, probably 8 inches or so. Damn stuff froze though so it's a pain to shovel, but my son has that under control. Did I mention lately what a great guy he is? Well, he is.
Duke and Sniffer were adopted Friday night and because it snowed, their new Mommy and Daddy get to stay home an extra day with them today :)
It's bright and beautiful out today and unbelievably quiet. It's amazing how the snow muffles the sounds and how nice it is with out the roar of school buses.
Last week was I guess, what a lot of people would call a bad week, but how bad can it be when your friends are so very good to you? It's then that you know you've touched the hand of God. Do unto to others was never so true.
See, the thing is, I don't want to *be* him, I want to *be with him! Oh hell....who said you had to be opposites to attract *wink*

Go on over to TV Guide's - Which Lost Character Are You? quiz.
Jacqueline, adorable as always!!
American Canine Search and Rescue Tribute
And congratulations to the new parents of Sniffer and Duke
Yup, two of the foster boys were adopted! They moved to a very, very nice home and we already heard from their Mom and they're doing great! Congrats!!
It's all anyone has been talking about for days now, the weather!
We're supposed to get over a foot.
I just looked out a few minutes ago and there were a few innocent flakes falling ever so slowly, ever so lightly........scary *G*
We're light on entries this week! C'mon peoples!!!!
Foster Update
A nice young woman and a couple, can to look at the puppies today. Argus and Sniffer have found new home! Argus will go to his new home in two weeks and Sniffer probably this weekend. AND the nice couple who are adopting Sniffer are picking a second puppy too, they just haven't decided which one yet. YEAH! And Argus will be a city boy :) He's movin' on up! Of all the dogs, he's the best suited for that, I'm really happy for him :) He even gets to go to doggie day care!
ASPCA Esunami Update
ASPCA PLEDGES $25,000 TO AID ANIMALS AFFECTED BY TSUNAMIThe devastation wreaked by the tsunami in South Asia was not reserved for humans alone. Amazingly, many wild animals escaped the danger because they were able to sense the impending quake—but others were not so fortunate. Countless farm animals, dogs, cats and marine animals were lost, especially in India, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia, and many others have been left diseased and without food or water. Several international animal rescue organizations, including the UK-based World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), have rallied to action, and the ASPCA has lent its support to these rescue efforts.
"I am pleased to announce that the ASPCA will be pledging $25,000 in support of WSPA's efforts," says Edwin J. Sayres, ASPCA president. "They are currently dispatching their disaster relief teams on the ground to the hardest hit regions, in order to provide food and veterinary supplies for starving and sick animals." Urgent assistance is already being provided through the distribution of food for starving animals in India, and food and veterinary supplies in Thailand. WSPA anticipates providing support shortly for relief efforts in Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
In addition to WSPA, the International Fund for Animal Welfare is also working directly with affected communities to provide veterinary services and reunite survivors with their lost pets. Both organizations are now accepting donations for their Disaster Relief Funds at their respective websites, WSPA-USA.org and IFAW online. Please stay tuned to ASPCA News Alert for more information on the rescue efforts.
Rescuer Needs Support
I received an E-mail in refernce to a woman in need, she is involved in rescue and now her own dog is sick. The owman works on a farm and only makes $40.00 a week. Her car is broken down, so she can't get another job right now. They have set up a fund at the vet's office, if you can spare some money, this would be a great way to help out.
From the E-mail:
Haskell Valley Veterinary Clinic 2148 Haskell Rd. Olean, NY 14711 (716) 372 1759 The account number for Angus is # 13293 and tell them it is for Angus. They can take credit cards and debit cards or donations can be sent by mail. Just be sure to put the account number and Angus on the check. And although I would prefer that any donations go right to the clinic, I have agreed once again to use my paypal account if it is the only way people can donate. You will need to use my email address nklr@pivot.net and you do not have to have a paypal account to help. Please, find it in your heart to help one of our own with one of her own. The price of a happy meal or one of those fancy coffee's (latté?) add up quickly as we all know. And please, don't spare the prayers. Angus needs all he can get.
And so it begins......
TV Show Raises Eyebrows in Namesake Town"
The question around here these days: What the devil was Fox thinking, bringing Satan's offspring ashore in such an idyllic place? Sure, the network's new series "Point Pleasant" is just fiction. But still."It's evil," said Barbara Stancel, a 60-year-old lifelong resident. "I'm not happy about it. Point Pleasant's known as a family town, and this won't do anything for Point Pleasant."
The local paper adds -
Devil and the deep blue sea: Spooky series 'Point Pleasant' ready to premiere
For people in the real Point Pleasant, news about "Point Pleasant," the fictional television show named for their town, is being met with a range of emotions -- from bemusement to anger. But area residents do seem to agree on one thing: They're curious enough about the show to check it out when it premieres next week.
I'm going to watch if only for the simple reason that Richard Burgi is a great guy and he was a wonderful auctioneer at this past October's Lights, Camera, Auction 7
This is the same state that spawned the magazine Weird NJ that has since published a book, Weird NJ and recently branched out to a new book, Weird US. Mind you the books are about the same size, which means NJ's weirdness was enough to equal that of the US. In theory anyway :)
Here's some pictures of him auctioning off the shirt that was donated by the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department. And the cap he's wearing, I bought for him, bought it right there in Point Pleasant, brought him two, one for him and one he auctioned off.

Brad Pitt News Conference for Japanese Eyes Only
TOKYO (Reuters) - Representatives of world media organizations keen to hear what Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt had to say about his breakup with Jennifer Aniston were frustrated on Thursday when only their Japanese rivals -- who promised to be polite -- were let into his news conference in Tokyo.
Good for him!
I was embarrassed last night when I sat down to catch a few minutes of TV and was flipping channels, all those entertainment shows were carrying on about Brad and Jen. One even said they had the Jennifer watch. Didn't this couple issue a statement and ask for a little privacy? The entertainmentcasters (they are not newscasters) were carrying on about how "The world wants to know!" No, the *world* doesn't want to know. I have more important things to concern myself with and it's shameful that we treat people this way.
This article, about the great over/under toliet paper debate was featured on one of the papers we were using to paper train the fosters. This of course raised the question of whether or not the puppies prefer their paper laid on the floor crease up or crease down. *G*
I really don't feel good. This is making me cranky and hypersensitive and naturally feeling unloved. I'm never quite sure who it is that decides that some of us don't need attention. For the record, I need attention sometimes too. I like to hear "ahhhh" once in a while and that I'm a good person once in a while. So there's my sick whine for the day. I have to go herd puppies now.
At about 8:30 last night, after nodding my way through the first half hour of "24", I developed a cold. It hit me like a ton of bricks and I'm frellin' miserable today. Can't sleep, which explains why I'm up now at this ungodly hour. Yes, for people who work midnights, 9:30AM is an ungodly hour.
"24" - damn that sucked. That half up haldf down camera thing is just annoying, not creative.
The premise sucked - "Oh Jack, I love you....but...please Jack....don't say anything.....you don't have to say anything." As "Jack" stands there looking constipated. "Oh honey (Jack now) we really need to tell your father all about us, I'd rather he heard it me." What are these people 12? This is a grown man and a grown woman. We then got into the stereotypical good child/embarrassing child scenario, seems the gov't guy has a son who apparently has the balls to act like an adult and not agree with his father and is (gasp!) a protester. Then we have the foreign family, the proper father, yet he refers to his wife when speaking to his son as "her". Anyone brought up in a strict household knows you never, never refer to your parents as "him" or "her" they are always regarded and addressed as "your mother" or "your father". Picky, not really, it was just one one example to me of how lame this set up was, so far. "24" seems to have it's up s and downs. Last night first half hour wasn't good enough to pull me in and it's a good think it doesn't remain on Sunday nights, for me, it wouldn't pull me away from Desperate Housewives or Boston Legal. I don't know what time it's on tonight, but I'd prefer to watch Vegas.
There were two bright spots last night, Roger Cross is a ery talented actor and I hope they don't waste his talents. It was nice to see "Chloe" back.
And why was Jack going to a professional meeting with scruff? Razor break? Or does the actor not feel like shaving every morning? Just didn't look very professional. Checking the Fox forum it seems like there's quite a few people who were disappointed. Maybe if you're a fan of soap operas it's your fare and I don't mean that in a degrading fashion, it's just that the overdramatized scenes and close ups of facila reactions just isn't may thing.
About 30 protesters, who said they were motivated by reports that people in Evansville could be prosecuted for shooting a cat, gathered Tuesday outside the Civic Center for a graphic demonstration against abortion and homosexuality.
Asked what link existed between the cat-shooting allegation and homosexuality, Larry Briggs, who came with the Campbellsburg church group, said, "People who take inordinate affection over cats probably lean toward favoring homosexuality ... there's an expedient link between the two."
As these people are allowed to breed......

A Sign of Life...Duke's story From Show Dog Magazine
A Sign Of Life
True story about a Great Dane named Duke who was left by the side of the road to die
January 5, 2005
Many cars passed by the dead dog on the side of the road. Many hearts grew heavy at the sight of the poor creature who's life seemed to have ended so violently and without comfort. More cars passed by the next day, more people saddened but glad that their dogs were home and safe. Then, at dusk, headlights
reflected back a sign of life from the eyes of "Duke".
The angel driving the car who's headlights shone a light of hope on Duke, stopped and discovered a large, brindle Great Dane mix, emaciated and in obvious pain. As she tried to lift the dog into her car, other people stopped to help, telling her that they had seen the dog in the ditch for days but assumed that
he was dead.
Duke was transported to the Lone Star Animal Clinic in nearby Cedar Park. I happened to be there and I will never forget the moment I saw Duke in the back of the Good Samaritans vehicle. His left front leg broken and bent at a grotesque angle. Swollen and openly fractured, the bone visibly protruding. His body
nothing more than a skeleton, his huge head swaying above bony shoulders. Still he tried to get up and greet us, gently wagging his tail.Dr. Gundula Barnet examined Duke. Aside from the compound fracture of the leg, she discovered a large open wound near his rectum which turned out to be an area where infection from a fractured pelvis had been draining. Dukes muzzle
was raw from abrasion. He was injected with pain medication, his leg was splinted and he spent the night on many layers of quilts, warm, safe and cared for. In the following days Duke's X-rays were evaluated by one of Austin's finest orthopedic surgeons who diagnosed the fractures to be at least 2-3 weeks old.
Duke had been determined to live! He had evidently propelled himself forward by using his muzzle to stabilize himself, unable to bear weight on his leg or his hips.
Dr. Barnet and the orthopedic surgeon were so taken by this dogs will to live that they decided to do whatever necessary to give him a chance at a new life.
Dr. Barnet has been caring for Duke every day. The fractured and infected pelvis was repaired and the splinted leg has been tended to and re-splinted every day. Now its time for the orthopedic surgeon to work his magic on the leg.
Duke is only 1-2 years old. Though he wore a collar with his name, there were no tags and a guardian has not been found. Dr. Barnet has been carrying the physical and financial burden of Dukes medical needs. A person who had expressed interest in adopting Duke and who wanted to help with the vet bills, is now
a little overwhelmed with the cost and the responsibility. This leaves Dr. Barnet with a total vet bill of about $3000.00,including the discounted bill from the orthopedic surgeon.
Donations towards Dukes vet bills are urgently needed. Any amount will help.
Dr. Barnet just opened her practice last spring and is in no position to fund the entire cost of Dukes surgeries and recovery. Dr. Barnett is very rescue friendly and among others has been caring for the animals at the Central Texas SPCA as well as my many foster dogs.
Please send your donation to:
Lone Star Animal Clinic
601 E. Whitestone Blvd
Cedar Park, Tx 78613

Tel.: 512-260-5888
Please feel free to contact Dr. Barnet if you have any questions regarding Duke.
DJ went and had "the boys" snipped yesterday. He's such a sweet puppy, I wanted to cry when he came out and was drenched in drool and crying, he was so happy to see us. I was relieved when we got there yesterday to find that Kristen was there, everyone at the Vet's is wonderful, as is the Vet, but she's exceptional and it was a relief to have her there. DJ has barely left my side for over 24 hours now. He's feeling better though.
I took a vacation day last night and stayed home with DJ and slept with him on the bed and the light on. Needless to say, I'm exhausted today, but not really able to sleep. We let him stop wearing the collar and so far, only one licking incident. I can't stand those collars. I can never figure them out once I take them off the first time and yes, I'm proud to say that I am a college graduate! *G* I still say schools should offer courses in the real things in life, okay, so Victorian collars would probably be a special subject, but how 'bout child rearing, check balancing, etc etc
Moose came to join his brothers today. His brothers and sister down in NC had been adopted and his other sister was adopted up here and we have two of his brothers. Now if Petfinder would just please, please hurry up with my application so I can get these pups on line and help them find good homes!
If anyone is feeling inclined and would like to sponsor one of the pups while they're in foster care, please let me know. Any and all contributions are welcome and would go to the purchase of food and toys for the six foster puppies. The rescue is a 501c and all contributions are tax deductible.

Soldier Begging For Dog Food For Deployed Dogs Commander Says Dogs
Live Off Scraps And Garbage
POSTED: 2:58 pm EST January 5, 2005
LAS VEGAS -- The commander of an Army Reserve detachment is begging
friends back home to send food for Iraqi police dogs.
"The dogs are starving and urgently need dry dog food," Capt.
Gabriella Cook, commander of the Las Vegas-based 313th Military
Police Detachment, said in a Dec. 28 e-mail reported Wednesday by
the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
"Some of them have already died," Cook wrote. "Half of them are
sick. We have no way of buying actual dog food here."
Cook's unit arrived last month in the Iraq capital. She said 12
German shepherds and one black Labrador retriever trained for bomb-detection and attack at the Iraqi Police Academy in Baghdad have been eating table scraps and garbage.
"It seems like an emergency situation," Diana Paivanas, a Henderson
pet-care provider and Cook's friend, told the Review-
Journal. "Something needs to be done now to save these dogs."
Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., a veterinarian, directed a legislative
aide to contact an Army liaison to investigate, a spokesman for the senator said. But when contacted Wednesday, his office said they were unsure where to send donations and that they are looking into it.
Military officials at the Combined Press Information Center in
Baghdad did not immediately respond to the newspaper's request for information about the food supply for U.S. canines in Iraq.
Paivanas said she found it costs about $50 to mail a 30-pound bag of dog food to Cook.
Henderson Veterinarian Terry Muratore estimated that each of the 13 working dogs would consume a 40 pounds or more of dry food per month.
"If securing the country entails having security dogs that are
healthy, then we should do that," Muratore said. "Surely there's
space on a C-130 to get a pallet of dog food over there."
If you would like to help feed the dogs, you may send checks to the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society. They are working with several companies to ship food to the animals as soon as possible.
"PetSmart has donated a pallet of food, and we hope PetCo will do the same," Judith Ruiz, president of the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society said.
Ruiz said several companies have donated food and that with the
money, the Humane Society will be able to buy more dog food at a discounted rate and will also pay for shipping to Iraq.
"All funds will go directly for the animals," Ruiz said.
The Humane Society is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization. So
your donation will be tax deductible.
Send donations to:
Las Vegas Valley Humane Society
Funds For Dogs In Iraq
2250 E. Tropicana
Suite 19
Las Vegas, NV 89119
Make checks payable to the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society. The
group asks that you indicate in a letter or on the check that you want your donation to go to the dogs in Iraq.

If you happen to read the comments, you'll see that someone asked about using Purina weight circles to aid the Tsunami animal victims, I placd a call to Purina yesterday and they said to give them a few days and they'd get back to me on that, here's hoping!
If anyone knows of any other reputable charity organizations or businesses that are aiding the animal victims, please let me know and I'll post it here.

TSUNAMI - SUPPORT NEEDED Friday December 31th 2004 10:22
For the animals suffering because of the Tsunami
If you have any contacts with organisations willing
to help they desperately need to buy large quantities of
food.
Hundreds of dogs who relied on local restaurants are
now starving as all the restaurants are gone.
Some of their local volunteers are either dead or
injured.
The following is still our basic advisory about how
donors can best assist the animal aid groups in the
areas hit by the tsunami.
The Sri Lankan organizations we are in touch with
are still just beginning to make contact with those
in the hardest hit areas, so the focus for now, as
regards Sri Lanka, is upon gathering resources to
enable quick response once the people in the field
know exactly what they need.
There seem to be no organizations up and running in
Indonesia, other than the Bali-based Asian office of
HSUS/HSI.
The Soi Dog Foundation and Blue Cross of India
remain the point organizations for the Thai and
Indian relief efforts.
ANIMAL PEOPLE publisher Kim Bartlett is collecting
and relaying donations for Sri Lankan tsunami animal
relief.
Checks can be mailed to:

Thank you. I know that there will be some people who will balk at this and say that all monies should go to humans, but animals are a huge part in our lives and in the lives of children. If have any doubt, read this story -
Dog Rescues 7 Year Old in India
She had three sons, and only two arms. She grabbed the youngest two and ran - figuring the oldest, 7-year-old Dinakaran, had the best chance of outrunning the tsunami churning toward her home.
But Dinakaran didn't follow. He headed for the safest place he knew, the small family hut just 40 yards from the seashore.
Sangeeta thought she would never see him again. The family dog saw to it that she did.
While water lapped at Sangeeta's heels as she rushed up the hill, the scruffy yellow dog named Selvakumar ducked into the hut after Dinakaran.
Nipping and nudging, he did everything in his canine power to get the boy up the hill.
One more day of vaca....so I'll spend today it in a mix of work and pleasure. Since it's still somewhat warm out (46 degrees) me and Mr Clean scrubbed down a big dog crate and did a little more yard work. The puppies have finally quieted down a bit, they're all pretty zonked out from running around the yard and then having chewies. Here's two of them, Johnny and Sniffer, they very rarely sit still!

No Desperate Housewives or Boston Legal tonight! Some stupid Dynasty special, the entire fake cast looks like a bunch of drag queens. Well, the original cast looked a alot like that too.
Have a great Sunday :)
