I just saw a car with American flags coming out of the windows, you know, those bracket things that you attach to the window sash, the ones that everyone seemed to have after 9/11 and now no one seems to have now. I'm afraid that we've become comfortable with terrorism. No matter what side of the war issue you're on, patriotism still seemed strong, you just had different takes on what was patriotic. I hardly ever see a flag on a car or on a house anymore. It's scary, this isn't something we should become comfortable with or accept. I wonder sometimes if we weren't lulled into this war, into going after Saddam for the expressed reason of depleting our forces and dividing the country, dividing our strength so that we would be weak when the real attacks come.
NEW ENTRIES JUST IN!!!! Why? Because Thunderbird (my mail program) is driving me nuts! Sorry for the omissions. If I'm missing your post, please resend it, thanks!
Quiet week.....
3 fosters were adopted out in the last two days :)
We got an application for one of the puppies and under the section where it asks if you've ever had a dog before, we received this reply:
ADOPTED (name deleted) SHE RAN OUT AND WAS HIT BY A TRUCK, AFTER SHE RECOVERED WE HAD TO SEND HER WITH A FAMILY THAT WAS HOME ALL DAY TO TAKE CARE OF HER. SHE IS DOING GOOD NOW SHE JUST REQUIRES SOME EXTRA CARE.
WHAT makes these people think that they should have another dog?! It has nothing to do with the truck, the truck part could happen to anyone, it's the giving your beloved dog away because you don't have the time for her now that she needs special attention! Nothing on the application indicated that there had been a change in their work schedules, so there isn't any more time now either. Amazing
Saturday night we had a table set up for the rescue at an event where dogs were welcome to attend and bring their owners. We met a nice dog named Norton and his owner informed us that he was named after Ed Norton (Honeymooner's character, not the actor). I jokingly asked if there was a Ralph. "No", the man informed me, "We have another dog, but her name is Lulu." "Lulu? Wasn't that the name of Ed Nortons' dog?" I asked. The man looked at me for a minute as if I'd spoken in a foreign language. "Was it?" He finally asked. "Yeah....at least I think so, it was trivia question recently...yes, I'm pretty sure it is". I suggested that he look it up on the internet. I just did myself.
Ed ends up sleepwalking again. He pushes Ralph over to get the key, opens the door, comes back in (for a banana) and goes back out.Ralph decides to call a Doctor to find out what is wrong with Norton. The Doctor gives Norton truth serum because he believes that Norton is searching for something. The Doctor finds out that when Norton was younger he had a dog named Lulu. He lost her at Coney Island after she went after a cocker spaniel in the Tunnel of Love. So Trixie gets Norton a dog (Lulu the second) and his sleepwalking problem is over.

Pets abandoned by U.S. troops face death
Excerpt from the article:
The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have prompted national efforts to alert deploying soldiers to alternatives to abandoning animals when they leave for war. But the hundreds of unwanted pets turning up in this southeast Georgia military town indicate many aren’t getting the message.Since the Fort Stewart-based 3rd Infantry Division deployed 19,000 troops to Iraq in January, animal control officers took in 321 abandoned dogs and cats. Of those, 119 have been euthanized.

You were my best friend for all those years. You listened to my problems, you shared in the ups and supported me in the lows. Whoever thinks a dog is just a dog never met you. You set the bar so high.....
You "trained" D'Ar and he's turned into a wonderful "old man" just like you were.
I hope you and 'Bass are enjoying all the Entenmann's in heaven. I love you Spike, thank you.
Thanks to everyone who's joining us and stopping by!

Mellow has been found safe and sound, thanks!
Our prayers have been answered and Mellow/Rainbow was found by Stephanie two towns over a few hours ago. He was safe, a bit thirsty and hungry but otherwise in good spirits.

Note from former foster mother ref to missing dog:
MISSING - slipped collar - Mellow is a companion to a woman with MS.
They did EVERYTHING together. I was his foster mom for a short time... he's been through too much already... was saved from euthanasia room at 10 pm in August of 2004. He IS "micro-chipped".Was originally named Mellow... was renamed "Rainbow"... he may know *both names*... he might be shy at 1st... he was a very good boy here... he is "very needy".

Mornin'! See that banner thing right over ------------> there - at least on my browser it's right over there in IE it's probably down the bottom somewhere - anyway - Petfinder has partnered with or affliated themselves with Pet Attraction and if anyone that reads this would be kind enough to click that little banner and go over there and sign up, our rescue will receive $1.00 for every person who signs up. It's basically a dating service I guess, but, even if you have a partner you can sign up because it says it's for making friends too, of both sexes. I'd appreciate if you'd take a minute and sign up, thanks!!
Hope everyone has a great day with their dogs :)

Pet first aid K-9 CPR
We attended our class last night and it was very interesting, I'd urge anyone with pets to attend. And if you can't attend the class, but you have a Red Cross chapter nearby, you might want to pick up the great pet first aid kit that they have for $15.00.
