Equality?

Equality? Oprah is talking about equality? She expected a store to stay open late to accomodate her - to allow her to shop *after hours* to make the employees stay, after their normal closing time *for her*. She shows up unannounced and she expects everyone to drop everything *for her*. Did she give any consideration to the fact that maybe these people have lives and they have places to go and families that are waiting for them? She's rude and arrogant in her assumption that she and her entourage should be let in to shop and she complains that it's racism. Yeah, well, in a way it is, but it's not about color, it's about rich people thinking they can do whatever they want and the less fortunate have to snap to. Sometimes I think the rich in this country, regardless of color, are turning into their own race.

I've always thought Oprah was a giving and kind person to thos ethat have less than she does, but not in this case.

Thanks Mr Winchell

"The wonderful thing about tiggers, is tiggers are wonderful things! Their tops are made out of rubber, their bottoms are made out of springs!"

The voice of Tigger and the "father" of Jerry Mahoney and Knucklehead Smiff, Paul Winchell has passed away. Thanks for the fun Mr Winchell!

Solstice

The solstice is here and the day has been a roller coaster ride. The news that we'd been waiting for for some time now finally came through and it was a breath of fresh air, but reality was there on it's heels as the car had broken down and they wanted $1000.00 with no guarantee of even fixing it and that was rough estimate. The guy at the dealership was conscending and proceeded to lecture me about what I should have had done 2000 miles ago - yeah buddy - in a perfect world. When I said I wanted to call my regular mechanic for a second opinion, he scoffed and actually said that the mechanic wouldn't know what he was talking about because he wasn't a *Hyundai* mechanic - now he'd never asked me if he was - he isn't- but he's damn good - good enough to keep our patrol cars safe, so he's good enough for me. If you're wondering why I didn't go to the mechanic in the first place, I did speak to him and he said to take it over to the dealership because we thought it still might be covered under the warranty. The guy at the dealership said absolutely not and that it wasn't covered. But, when I went to pick the car up - oh - he practically hung up on me when I said I wanted the truck back - "WITHOUT finding out why the check engine light is on??!!" -"Yes." Drama Queen - anyway - the guy that I picked it up from was much nicer and he was surprised that there wasn't an extended warranty - oh well - Thankfully Mike is a really nice guy and he wasn't going to look at the truck until Thursday, but he's made time for it tomorrow. This is after he puts in a full day at work. Days like this just kind of find you off kilter all day I think - there's more, but, I hate to whine - there are so many more beautiful things - my son is feeling better, the puppies are amusing, I have food on the table and a job to go to - wow - speaking of which - I sarted my 24th year the other day - wow, wow, wow - I remember my father getting his clock from GM at 25 years, it seemed like an eternity, wow. Yes, I think I'm allowed to wow myself huh? *G* You have to understand, I'm the non-commital type, probably why I love my job, on any given day, you can find a way out of it! LOL!

Hartz to Relabel and Cancel Flea and Tick Drops for Cats and Kittens

Contact: Eryn Witcher, 202-436-2215/ witcher.eryn@epa.gov

(Washington, D.C.-- June 3, 2005) At EPA's insistence, Hartz Mountain Corp. has agreed to cancel uses of several flea and tick products that may be associated with a range of adverse reactions, including hair loss, salivation, tremors and numerous deaths in cats and kittens. The common pet product brand names which are involved in this action include: Hartz Advanced Care 4 in 1 Flea & Tick Drops Plus+ for Cats and Kittens; Hartz Advanced Care Brand Flea and Tick Drops Plus+ for Cats and Kittens; Hartz Advanced Care 3 in 1 Flea & Tick Drops for Cats and Kittens; and Hartz Advanced Care Once-A-Month Flea and Tick Drops for Cats and Kittens.

In the short term, the agreement calls for immediate relabeling of the products. The new labeling will state that the products of concern are not to be used on the most vulnerable animals, including cats and kittens that weigh less than 6 pounds, cats older than 13 years, or kittens less than 5 months old.

Hartz will stop all new production of the cat and kitten products by September 30, 2005, and not sell or distribute any affected product after December 31, 2005. The measures announced today will help ensure pets are protected. Pet owners should pay close attention to new labels and exercise good judgment when choosing pet products.

"EPA is taking this action because there are safety concerns with these products,'' said Susan B. Hazen, principal deputy assistant administrator at EPA. "Pet owners should be alerted to these concerns, and may choose to transition to alternative products. We take seriously our obligation to ensure that pesticide products, when used as labeled, are safe."

The company agreed to a prohibition on any remaining retail sales by March 31, 2006. This orderly transition allows consumers and distributors to move to alternatives flea and tick products and will be strictly monitored. Hartz will also be notifying their distributors and retailers of the changes in order to ensure a workable phaseout.

As with any pesticide product, all label directions and precautions should be carefully followed to ensure the product is used correctly. It is prudent to follow the new restrictions for all products, including existing stocks.

After a public 30-day comment period, EPA intends to issue a cancellation order and an amended registration, which will be effective by October 31, 2005. For further information, please visit: EPA

Dr Who - SPOILERS

I think that I'll have to go and watch this episode again. Please keep in mind that I'm a Who novice. Despite what the actress who played a former assistant thinks, not everyone does know what a Dalek is. I certainly didn't and I don't find them very scary, but that could be a whole Will Robinson thng on my part.

Last night saw the demise of Rose, shot down and disintegrated right in front of the Dr who was rushing to save her, he did promise her Mum after all. But, neither he or Captain Jack could make it in time and it appeared that Rose actually got in the way of the beam so that it wouldn't take out the Dr. It was a very moving scene, short, but moving. And no, don't worry, Rose wasn't really killed, she was transported elsewhere, to a Dalek ship to be exact.

I'm not sure how this episode will play to a non-BBC America crowd, but if you are a regular BBC America watcher, then you'll get all the in jokes. The episode centers around game shows gone mad. The Big Brother House, where the Dr ends up and The Weakest Link, where Rose winds up are both imports, but the third, where Jack is, has been re-done (poorly) here in the states. Triny (sp) and Susannah, in What Not To Wear, as robots was great! And the fact that they were able to have Anne Robinson and Trina and Susannah do the voices was as the Dr would say, "Fantastic!". There was a stab at Ground Force too, I forget the punch line, but something about people being turned into mulch!

I imagine, that true Who fans will relish the return of the Daleks far more than I can appreciate, at least it seems that the Daleks were a very big deal, but even though my experience with them is limited, I'm enjoying the interaction and the level of defiance and bravery to which the Dr rises with this adversary.

The acting was suberb, for some off reason they wouldn't allow Jack's "bum" to be shown on TV.

03.jpg
And I'm sure I must sound like so many others when I say that I can't imagine anyone else being the Dr except Eccleston, but I suppose true Who fans have become very used to that.

The Dr Who Confidentials are on-line, good stuff. I have to paraphrase, but Tom Baker said something along the lines of - Fan love is better than human love, it lasts longer.

Now I want a toy Dalek!!*G*

Go Eat Crow(e)

Russell Crowe, who was arrested Monday after reportedly throwing a telephone at a New York hotel porter, has stepped up a verbal fight against actors who appear in TV commercials, including George Clooney, Harrison Ford and Robert de Niro.

*snip*

Clooney then countered by remarking that Crowe was using his celebrity to boost his rock band. Now, in the London daily Sun, Crowe responded, "An endorsement is about money. My music is from the heart."

So, I guess all of Russell's concert will be free from now on?

Friday Feast

I haven't done one of these in ages - I discovered The Friday Feast courtesy of Sal's Journey

Here goes -

Appetizer
What comes to mind when you hear the word bizarre?

That I use it *a lot*

Soup
Using just a few words, describe your childhood.

Naive, happy, inquisitive, mystified, hiding

Salad
Name one thing you do each day that you feel improves your appearance.

Walk

Main Course
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how would you rate your self-confidence?

Wow - next you'll ask me to rate my humility after I answer that - ok - 10. So be it.

Dessert
Where did you last find a bargain?

The dollar store, where else? *G*

TV Guide's Sexiest Men

Ith steered me towards this story - Tv Guide's Sexiest Men or as they have it titled on their webpage, "What Women Want".

Let's review -

Josh Holloway - oh yeah - it's true, no sense making up any BS, this is a basic case of bad boy, bad boy, whatcha gonna do? I hope it's me. (insert case of school girl giggles)

James Denton - see above, but a bit more mature and relaxed in the skin he's in. He doesn't blow my skirt up, but I can understand the appeal.

Josh Duhamel - the nice boy, bad boy.

I don't dare say a word about Hugh Laurie, I'll leave that to Ith! *G*

The rest - all yours girls - my one HUGE objection - the guy from Survivor - puhleez - he was a bully and damned annoying and how he could let that young kid give up his chance at the million was unbelievable. You're a schmuck, bad boys may be sexy, schmucks ain't.

And just 'cause I like looking at the guy -

Dr Who and Fun!

I think you can pretty much tell when we're very busy with puppies and work, but last night I got to browse around a bit and some of this is probably old to some of you, but heck, I had fun!

My son has gotten me hooked on Dr Who. I found that there's a
Dr Who Blog - and Who is Doctor Who web page now being run by "Mickey", (different Mickey, he's a guy, I'm not) Yes, I'm absolutely addicted to the new Dr Who, I have nothing to compare it to, as I've never watched Who before.

The Daily Dancer This guy is nuts and I love it. He isn't Dancing Roommate or even Numa Numaor AnimatedNuma Numa but, he's entertaining :)

What else -

Disclosure before declothing? I think...but maybe it's just me, that the issue of what you did before you met me becomes less interesting as you get older, the whole been there, done that, no reason to act coy or bravadoish (new word) isn't needed. The only reason I can see is for self protection reasons, but you should be taking those needed precautions anyway.
